PlayStation2

Why are games addictive? Does everyone get addicted to games or it depends on individual?

Addiction to computer games and console games like the PlayStation, PS2 and XBox are more common among the males rather than the females. Some can stay in whole day playing these games continuously as if they are living in another world of their own. Some feel that playing games help them to improve their reflexes and train the brain to think faster.

The question of whether playing games is a total waste of time is somehow hard to argue at times. Game manufacturers are producing so many new games and better game consoles. This of course has contributed to the economy and created more job opportunities in the market. On the other hand, gamers demand for more challenging and better quality games from time to time. The rapid booming of games in the current market is thus much influenced by the strong supply and demand theory for games.

Playing games is a form of therapy for the mind. It helps to distract you from other things and keeps you focused on the particular game. When the game starts, you will need to coordinate your brain, eyes and fingers in order to win the game. A lot of thinking and planning is involved as well as control and reaction. And when you have mastered these skills, you will eventually want more and more each time when you play a game. Hence, I feel this indirectly contributes to game addiction. Well, how true is this assumption?
